Looking back at the 1st symposium of the UK Glia Network
On 9 September 2024, the UK Glia Network held its inaugural meeting at the Diamond Building, University of Sheffield. The programme combined a poster session with three mini-symposia: the role of glial cells in neurodegeneration, glial cells in non-mammalian systems and outside the CNS, and the molecular and functional diversity of glial cells. Jeffrey Iliff and Roslyn Bill keynote lectures opened and closed the meeting. Prizes recognised the best early career researcher talks and posters, and every participant received a copy of Neuroglia by Alexei Verkhratsky and Arthur Butt. More than 130 researchers attended, making it the first of what we hope will be many meetings bringing the UK glia community together.
