The UK Glia Network exists to bring together everyone in the UK who studies glia, the cells that make up so much of the nervous system and do so much to shape how it develops, works, ages and heals. From astrocytes and microglia to oligodendrocytes, Schwann cells and the glia of non-mammalian systems, our members span every corner of the field, working from basic biology through to disease and repair. We want to connect them into a single, vibrant community that is greater than the sum of its labs. We do this by creating spaces, at our meetings, online and between them, where researchers can share ideas, exchange tools and methods, find collaborators and tackle questions no single group could answer alone.
We are equally committed to how that research is done. We aim to foster a positive research culture that is open, supportive and inclusive, where everyone is welcome regardless of career stage, background, identity or institution, and where curiosity, generosity and respect matter as much as results. Early career researchers are at the heart of this vision. We give them a platform to present their work, build networks, gain recognition and grow into the next generation of leaders in glial biology. By championing collaboration, sharing and inclusion, and by communicating the importance of glia to the wider scientific community and the public, we hope to strengthen the UK's place at the forefront of glia research and help turn discovery into better understanding and treatment of neurological disease.
